Solving the Ministry’s challenge requires a degree of exposition to economic and legal issues. We want the participants to focus of the process of solving the actual tasks, thus at every stage of the contest they will be accompanied and assisted by experts. The MinFinTech mentor team consists of specialists in the fields of finance, law and Computer Science who during the entire competition will offer their assistance to participants and dispel the doubts that may arise in the process of solving the challenges.

Paweł Gruza, Mentor
Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Finance
Paweł Gruza was born on 1 June 1977 in Warsaw. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of Warsaw University. He participated in numerous professional training activities, seminars and conferences in Poland and abroad (inter alia, courses on Polish and international accounting standards, economic legislation of the European Union, international tax planning, industry-specific training programmes). He has broad professional experience. He managed many interdisciplinary projects for companies from the industrial and financial sector. In the years 2000 – 2006 he worked for advisory companies. From April 2016 he acted in the capacity of Vice Minister of the State Treasury. Co-author of the first commentary to the Act on the social security system (1999) and co-author of the first commentary in Poland to EU VAT directives (2004, selection and editing of rulings of the EU Court of Justice). Author of articles in specialized journals and economic press. Expert on finance and economics of the Republican Foundation; in January 2016 appointed as the member of its Management Board.
Renata Domasiewicz, President of the Jury
Deputy Director of the Tax Collection Department
Deputy Director in Tax Collection Department. Her main tasks include supervising the taxpayer`s registration process and development of revenue IT systems supporting the tax collection process. She is involved in many projects aimed at reforming the tax system and modernizing the revenue administration, not only on the technical level but also taking part in the legislative process. Her work also focuses on the risk analysis and its impact on the auditing system. Moreover, her duties encompass the supervision of the international administrative cooperation within the EU and third countries with the emphasis on the effective and timely exchange of tax and financial information.

Experienced tax administration trainer on topics related to tax fraud audit and Internet research. Participant and lecturer at multiple exchange programms (i. a. FISCALIS and IOTA). Lectures business intelligence and prevention of tax evasion at the Wrocław University of Economics, National School of Judiciary and in the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Co-author of a tax audit manual and e-commerce textbook for fiscal administration.

Jan Sarnowski, Mentor
Advisor to the Polish Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Finance
Jan Sarnowski graduated from the University of Warsaw with a master of laws degree and completed an LLM (tax law) at the University of Cologne. He broadened his knowledge of Polish, German, and international tax law in postgraduate studies on Taxes and Tax Law at the University of Warsaw and in a two-year study of Anglo-American law at the WWU Münster. Holder of Erasmus (2008), DAAD (2010), and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (2013) scholarships. Enthusiast of teaching with academic experience from the University of Regensburg, University of Toronto, and FHM Bielefeld, lectures in Polish and German tax law. Jan gathered professional experience i. a. in the Polish Ministry of Finance, the Supreme Administrative Court of Poland, and by working for international law firms in Berlin and Warsaw. Since November 2016 advisor to the Polish Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Finance. In his free time, Jan visits the Opera House and reads fantasy and historical literature.

I am a licensed tax advisor and graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw. I have worked for tax advisory and consulting companies from big4 for several years. I specializes in advisory in respect of Value Added Tax. During the career, I participated in many optimization projects and proceedings both before the tax authorities and administrative courts. I was also responsible for the implementation of comprehensive tax procedures and ongoing tax advisory services for domestic entities and international corporations from various sectors, in particular: TMT, real estate, FMCG. I also took part in many international programs and competitions in the field of international tax law i.a. in Austria, Portugal and Belgium. She graduated of the Institute of Political Studies at the Jagiellonian University. In 1999-2002, she worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister. In 2009, Head of the PRL Museum in Krakow. Councillor of the Małopolska Regional Assembly. She was a scholar of the Oxford University and the American Council on Germany, Dräger Foundation, ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius. Mother of three sons.

An active NGO player, he acts in a scientific foundation Polonium and economic think-tank Instrat. He graduated from SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Finance and Accounting and now studies Economics at the University of Cologne. He has gained experience in business journalism, at industry organizations in Warsaw and M&A advisory in Frankfurt and recently at Ministry of Finance. He regularly publishes on economic matters (labour market and taxation policy) an on international affairs (German-Polish bilateral relationships) and voluntarily supports Polish students in applying for German scholarships.

Antoni is currently pursuing undergraduate degrees in Economics, and Management Science and Engineering (MS&E) at Stanford University. Aside from studying, he is also a member of several student bodies, including the Stanford Space Initiative, and is currently serving as the Stanford International Ambassador for Poland. Formerly working with a number of financial, as well as central government institutions, he was most recently serving in the Ministry of Finance as the laureate of “Leaders in Taxation” competition. A double recipient of the Prime Minister’s Fellowship, and laureate of the “Path to Harvard” competition, Antoni is also involved in supporting Polish students in applying to universities abroad. A frequent participant of conferences and CCDC events, Antoni is committed to understanding and shaping the impact of technology on humanity’s development.

Ryszard Hordyński, holds currently a BP position, VP, at Special Purpose Vehicle, Aplikacje Krytyczne, a company that was launched by Ministry of Finance of Poland. The key goal of its mission, is to develop a highly sophisticated multidimensional data warehouse which will support MoF in tax fraud’s elimination. Ryszard has 20 years of professional experience gathered both on the industry and management consulting side. Ryszard was engaged in project and assignments within TMT & ICT industry primarily with focus on transformation, cost optimization, strategy and growth. Ryszard is very much interested in start-up’s, new ideas and innovations which could help both public and commercial side.
